Eça de Queiroz was a lawyer and a journalist, up until he went on a journey throughout the World. This new World, at least to his eyes, may have inspired him a great deal. Upon his return to Portugal, he started writing. But one can say his writing skill could have also come from his father, a judge, but also a writer and a poet. He then became a diplomat and left again. Havana was his first assignment.
His travel notes, from multiple trips, and important events, should have served as inspiration to his novels. The opening of the Suez Channel and a visit to Palestine were only few of them.
Os Maias, his reference novel even today, was written while he was a based on Bristol diplomat.
With a certain degree of irreverence, his O crime do Padre Amaro (Father Amaro’s crime, in a free translation), shocked portuguese society at the time. Profoundly catholic and with high moral grounds, it was not well received. But it remained for History.
Eça de Queiroz’ authenticity but, at the same time, his reasonability inspired us to create and design this shoe design. They do not go out unnoticed while also remain discrete. It is this duality that makes them so unique.
