Bocage marked the Portuguese cultural life with his poetry. But not without controversy.
Born in Setúbal, poetry was part of his life from an early age. He enlisted in the Navy, which led him to India, where he eventually deserted. Your spirit would, quite possibly, be too free for the rigors of official life.
He lives in Macau and returns to Lisbon to fall in love with her brother's wife. An event that marks a phase of his poetry, dedicating it to love and disappointment.
He studies the classics, like Camões, where he goes to find structure for his poems. But he always felt that poetry had to set itself free. To run away from limits and compositions.
His free spirit, also inspired by Lisbon bohemia and the French revolution, led him to erotic poetry and satire. Recognized in his midst, his poetry was too libertine for the time. Which earned him an extended stay in the dungeon. This displeasure marked his course and calmed the tone of his work. But never your spirit.
Its greatest heritage is that of a lyric poet. To the point of being remembered next to Luís de Camões or Antero de Quental.
Bocage's spirit and irreverence are reflected in Bocage shoes. And even the touch of calm that marked the end of his life, in a balanced and very current design.
The Bocage shoe is part of the new Alma Portuguesa collection, through which we intend to spread the Portuguese heritage through great personalities.
