Born in Sines, by the sea, maybe this random fact dictated his fate? There isn’t much information on his life, up until he was nominated to head the expedition to discover the sea route to India.
His journey, filled with boycott attempts and incidents, was inspiration to one of the greatest work by Luis de Camões, the Lusíadas.
Forever acknowledged for his discovery of the sea route to India, he was an ambitious and practical man. He fulfilled his mission and in return, received an historic inheritance, which remains today.
He ends his journey in the East. After all, the place which marked his whole existence. And of his country. And gave him a well deserved recognition.
